The Anniversary is the sequel to Enoch James' first novel, The Third Wrong.  This story starts with a gathering of the five main characters at Ben Conroy's place outside Orofino, Idaho, on the anniversary of the presumed demise of a most despicable person.  Each of them had been a willing participant in the pursuit of informal justice.

Ben Conroy has recently learned the truth and calls the group together to tell them what really happened.  A bond forms between the five and they dedicate themselves to future action intended to fill the gaps in a flawed criminal justice system.
